Least Sandpiper (Calidris minutilla)
The smallest shorebird, breeding in Canada, building the nest on the ground near water. This bird eats mostly insects, crustaceans and snails. Offsprings feed themselves and are able to fly within 2 weeks.
How to Identify
This species has greenish legs and a short dark bill. Upper parts are brown with a fine light line above the eyes and the belly is white.
Where and When to Spot
I observed this species along the shore in Tadoussac and Newfoundland.
