American Robin (Turdus migratorius)

A mid-size bird very common around Montreal except during winter months when it is seen less frequently. American Robin feeds on the ground and on smaller bushes.

How to Identify

The species has a dark grey back, white ring around the eyes and an orange belly which varies in color from light orange till reddish or brown.

Where and When to Spot

Very common during spring, summer and autumn months in parks around Montreal. It feeds on the ground searching for worms and insects and hiding in the lower part of bushes and trees after a successful catch. Rarely seen in December, January though.
