DeKay's Brownsnake Storeria dekayi

A short brown to gray snake with a fine line along the center bordered by black spots, native to Quebec, feeding on worms, snails and slugs. It is a non-venomous snake.

How to Identify

Smaller than other snakes like Common Garter snake, brown-grey with black spots.

Where When to Spot

I spotted this species only once at the left entrance to Park Pointe aux Prairies in spring. DeKay's brownsnake is on IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
